The Presbyterian Church of Mt. Washington
"Interactivity with God" is the intended spiritual experience for every person on Sunday mornings in worship within the Presbyterian Church of Mt. Washington. We are an urban church on a mountaintop. In an urban setting we find all kinds of ways to serve people whose lives we take as seriously as we do our own. We believe, as St. Augustine wrote in the 4th century: "God loves you as if you were the only one in the world to love, and God loves everyone else the same way." From this mountaintop setting we seek to discern God's higher purposes for our life together. From Mt. Washington, we overlook Pittsburgh's cityscape, and on our overlook deck we hold Jazz Vespers on the 4th of July before the City's fireworks light up the horizon. And on Palm Sunday (this year April 13th) we organize an ecumenical liturgical Parade from Shiloh Street along Grandview Avenue, complete with a donkey, that culminates in a Blessing of the Palms at the "pod" across from St. Mary's. The coffee will be hot at 8:30 a.m. at the Shiloh Street parking lot. You are invited!
We sponsor tutoring on Tuesdays for public school 2nd and 3rd graders from neighboring elementary schools.
We teach arts education on Wednesdays after school for 4th and 5th graders.
We host an AA meeting that has met at the church every Wednesday evening for 45 years.
We participate in the Tuesday morning, ecumenical food pantry assistance program housed at St. Justin's Church on Boggs Avenue.
We are active supporters of the Mt.Washington/Duquesne Heights ministerium.
We host Alternative Worship Experiences (A.W.E.) on the third Wednesday evenings from October through May.
We'd be delighted to have you join us this Sunday at 11 a.m. for worship!
